Railroad Canyon, Gallinas Creek - Gila National Forest

Good things are happening at Railroad Canyon six years after the Silver Fire.  No longer shaded by the pine and fir forest, willows and alders are growing up fast and in close order lining the banks of Gallinas Creek. The water, which is frequently all but gone on the first week of June, was flowing and cool all the way up to the fork with East Railroad. It's still a bit open and warm for summer hiking, but at least our dogs were able to get wet. I can see a day when there will be plenty of shade, this time provided by riparian trees.
