Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument - Candler and Mason Draws

                                

  I did this little walkabout of 3 miles or so on a Sunday (3/13/22). I had been interested after visiting Mason's Fort a few weeks ago in seeing if there was anything of interest at the confluence of Mason Draw and Candler Draw, the two major waterways that meander southwards through the huge basin flanked on the north and west by the Sierra de las Uvas. Nothing much to report, but grass thickly growing in the secondary channels,  a few bigger than average mesquite, eye-high cockleburs and happily only a very few salt-cedar. There were the gravels and creosote above the arroyos, but no sure signs that  I could find of ancient peoples using this area. Still, it was warm and sunny and the wind never got to be a bother, so I was happy to be out here on a Spring afternoon.
