Galisteo Basin Preserve
We did a short hike here Monday morning. It was really getting too hot already. Trails here are open to the public although the preserve is privately owned. Go to their website http://www.galisteobasinpreserve.com/ for more information and to download the map which is very useful given the confusing web of interconnecting trail out here.
There were quite a few bicycle riders, all unfailingly polite, which made things a little difficult for us with two dogs not used to such things. The juniper- piƱon grassland terrain is pleasant if unspectacular. Really, this is spot that I would only visit out of convenience for a very early morning, or weekday winter walk because despite the natural setting, the entire experience was very urban.
